Andrew (Drew) Crampton received his doctorate at the Technical University of Munich in the group of Ueli Heiz where he studied ethylene hydrogenation on supported, size-selected platinum clusters.  He employed temperature programmed and pulsed molecular beam techniques, as well as optical and photoelectron spectroscopies, to investigate this reaction in the sub-nanometer size-regime.
In the Friend Group, he is investigating thermal- and photochemical properties of nano-structured semiconductors under ultra-high vacuum in order to reveal fundamental molecular reaction steps and couple them with the structure of the material.
