Mustafa Karatok obtained his PhD in chemistry at Bilkent University, Turkey. His PhD work was focused on the nature of oxygen species on Ag(111) and Au(111) model catalysts and their role in the selective oxidation reactions under ultra high vacuum (UHV) conditions. He experienced in a multi-functional UHV system which is equipped with XPS, IRAS, LEED and TPD/TPRS. He was also an active collaborator in other projects where he contributed to such work by performing XPS analysis of complex catalysts.

He joined the Friend Group in March, 2018, and is currently investigating the reactivity of Ag-based bimetallic systems under UHV conditions to model catalyst systems
